Hello, and welcome to Spoonful of Butter!
This is your go-to destination for everything homemade baking and cooking. If cooking in the kitchen is your “happy place,” if you love to bake from scratch and get creative, if checking out the baked goods on display at a bakery makes you feel excited, and if you love to watch the joy on someone’s face when they bite into your treats, then this is the right place for you.
A Bit About Me…
I was born and raised in Manila where it’s summer most of the year, and now living in Canada where it’s cold most of the year.😛 I’m a former cubicle dweller in the world of Information Technology (IT), doing software development. Though I thoroughly enjoyed my “first” career, I realized after 12 years that my heart doesn’t belong to the corporate world. I wanted to pursue a future that revolves around what I love to do most – eating, cooking, baking. Reading cookbooks, food magazines, and watching cooking shows were my stress busters. I love eating out and drooling over the cakes and pastries at bakeshops at patisseries. I especially love my restaurant dates with my husband.
I am totally self-taught when it comes to cooking. You wouldn’t find me in the kitchen as I child. And I have no memories of baking breads or cookies with my mom nor my grandma. I was good with the cooking part but knew very little about baking (and even less about food photography!). It was in my bucket list to enroll in a culinary school so I thought, why not educate myself on where I was least good at? I finished my training in Pastry Arts and I realized that baking is a learned discipline. If equipped with the right knowledge and with lots of practice, anyone can bake!
So, what’s cooking here?
You’ll find recipes I’ve developed myself, but also those I’ve gotten from friends and family, found around the web, in magazines and cookbooks, or TV—I’m pretty much open to any source or inspiration!
The recipes you see here are what I actually serve to my family. They range from easy to difficult. For the most part, I try to keep things simple with accessible ingredients and no special equipment. Some are healthy, some are indulgent – it’s all about balance! I don’t follow any diets or trends just because it’s popular. I only share recipes I truly love. Here you’ll find:
- homemade baked goods, from cookies to cakes and breads
- baking how-t0’s, tutorials, tips, and tricks
- simple and tasty everyday and seasonal food
- tried and tested classic and comfort foods
- party food and meals for special occasions
- restaurant and take-out favorites which I try to recreate at home (that’s savings for my wallet too!)
- food which I miss back home as well as recipes from around the world (I am always in search for tasty, new recipes)
